HEADS UP: TEST FOR CHAPTER 7 is on Friday. OK YOU WIN.. It is on Monday!
We will do a review Wednesday and then move on to the next chapter.

Journal question given out in class. Newspaper article review on ecstasy and its change in chemical structure. Risks and discussion. Review for test
Monday February 13- Complete Test for Chapter 7. Dont panic. You will be fine! Gave you food for thought reading from the book 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology. Myth # 44. Psychology and the Law. MOST MENTALLY PEOPLE ARE VIOLENT! Myth!! Read the article. It is interesting. Tomorrow I will download it to my site for those who missed it.
Progress Report Check in. Finish your homework. It is very mangeable. If not, come and see me asap
Finish up your journal. It is due Feb 20th!
Week of Feb 20th- Start new chapter on Psychological Disorders.
We read chapter 16 Section 1 and 2. Gave out homework and tests that were marked.
Discussed the DSM IV and how psychologists categorize mental illnesses. PLEASE READ YOUR TEXTBOOK :)
Reviewed NOTES. Kathie gave out word processed notes to each student so you didnt have to write them down this week. WE went through the first section only.
Gave out missing work summaries. Take them home and share with your parents.
Watched a PBS video clip about phobias. Discussed the difference between phobias and anxiety. You were writing about the differences and sharing a few of your own personal phobias/anxieties- Add to your journal when you get it back! Asked you to take notes and describe Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as it was used with the girl that had a fear of flying. Discussed physiological symptoms that were present when one experiences extreme fear ( dizziness, shortness of breath, heart racing). Make sure to write this down and add to your journal!)
Monday February 27th
Read Section 2 of Psychological Disorders.
Read Section 2 and answer questions from Guided Reading and Vocabulary Activity - Handed out worksheet. You will need to read your text to complete this. Hand it in asap.
FUN!! GLOGSTER assignment. Create an online glog of one of the phobias. If you finish early, try another one! Finish your reading and your homework first.

I tried it. It gets easier if you are patient! TRY IT. See my example below. I am sure you can add to your poster if you have more time. Please try to email it to me so I can add it to my website of photos. I dont have any at the moment and I think it would be great to add your work to this site!
SIDENOTE: I collected all the journals last day. If you did NOT hand it in, you must do so by Wednesday at the lastest as I need time to mark them before the break! Marks cut off is fast approaching. Here is a gift for you. Remember, you can always ask questions along the way rather than wait until the end!! Always use your class time. It is SO valuable. I have marked a couple of journals thus far and I am VERY impressed with some of your work!
Things you could add to your journal……
1. Children Rights- Short discussion about bullying. Journal what do you think? Should children have rights?
2. Junk Science vs Real Science. Gave you a hand out. Provide one example of each and tell me what you think about the differences. Gave you a website to search online with my password and one class to explore.
3. 60 minute sleep documentary. Gave a handout with questions. Write about the interesting things you learned,
4. Handed out sleep article titled “Who Needs it?” Reflect on your readins
5. Reflect on any of the new information from the chapters we covered.
6. Explain your typical day? Gave a large piece of paper/handout to each student and class time to record your typical events. Shared with peers. Write about your peers and their typical day. Any issues?
7. Watched part of movie called Inception. Didn’t finish as it was too long. What did you think about the beginning?
8. Sleep and Dream LOG journal. Gave out before Christmas break. You were to track your sleep and record your dreams. Handout with detailed explanation.
9. Guest speaker- Laura Wheldon. Theory of mind handout. Could take notes on the side about important pieces of information. What do you think about hypnotherapy? On the fence or not? Why?
10. Before we started the New Years Resolution assignment we reviewed our present and future self. We recorded things that are happening in the present. You were to think about your future and record how you can make changes today to follow a path of your choosing. We explored education, health, dietary and financial aspects.
11. Personal story about mental illness and schizophrenia. Watched a documentary (on web/link) if you missed it. What did you learn?
12. Hand out about 50 myths of pop psychology. Gave class time for you to record your preconceptions about people who have mental illness and acts of aggression.
